The Castlegar News began its operation April 1, 2004, with Black Press.

In its first year, the News was named best new business in Castlegar by Castlegar and District Chamber of Commerce.

0 The News and its staff serve Castlegar and vicinity, distributing copies free of charge, every Thursday, from Genelle to Playmor Junction.

Chris Hopkyns worked as the associate publisher for the Nelson Star for two years and for one year as a sales associate with the Kootenay Western Star before becoming publisher of the Castlegar News in October 2010.

Jim is the editor of the Castlegar News. Before coming to Castlegar, Jim worked at the Sooke Mirror as a reporter/photographer. Prior to that, he had stints in Grand Forks and Dawson Creek. Jim is an award winning photographer.

I'm a friendly and outgoing person this makes my job as Office and Circulation manager very enjoyable. After years of office administration experience I started working at Castlegar News in August, 2010 and enjoy the multi tasking challenges. My co-workers love my laugh and my Black Forest cakes even more.

After studying Graphic Design/Illustration and Marketing at Red River College I started my career in Prince Albert, Sk. I've recently moved out to the Kootenays where I continue my passion for creating really cool print and web designs. I enjoy every opportunity to do what I love and take great pride in what I create.

As a child I had visions of becoming a vet, dentist and an airline attendant. Those visions slowly faded away as I realized I should pursue a career with my creative side. With computer technology on the rise I decided to become a graphic designer and followed the appropriate steps. Now I am living my dream!

Craig Lindsay
Craig is the reporter and photographer for the Castlegar News. He writes about news, business, arts, entertainments, sports, and community. Before coming to Castlegar, Craig worked at the Brooks and County Chronicle in Brooks, AB and the Kootenay Advertiser in Cranbrook. He enjoys basketball and video games.
     
Gord  Turner Columnist
Gord Turner
Gord Turner teaches English at Selkirk College, is a Rotarian, and has been on City Council for six years. He is a past chair of the Kootenay Gallery. He has published two books of poetry and many freelance articles.

Karen Haviland is a long-time Castlegar resident and has worked in the past as a reporter and editor for a variety of newspapers in British Columbia. She currently writes a general interest column for the Castlegar News.
