Volunteers with Communities in Bloom (CIB) have been busy keeping Castlegar beautiful.
The present hot dry weather is increasing their workload as volunteers must be out watering every day.
Each planter bed also has a team leader who is out every week tending to it, fertilizing and making sure it stays in tip-top shape.
CIB also utilizes some large black reservoir planters that only have to be filled once per week, conserving water and labour.
There are 26 of these planters spread around the city at places like the highway entrance and the Chamber of Commerce.
Castlegar CIB will find out just what the judges thought of their efforts this year at the annual CIB conference Sept. 14 in Ottawa.
Volunteers are already looking beyond summer and making plans to plant another 5,000 daffodils at the Highway 3 west entrance to Castlegar in the fall.
