Scouts from Nelson and Castlegar along with their two Scouters left the Kootenays destined for the Musquodoboit Valley in Nova Scotia.

A late night and extremely wet/muddy start to camp was soon forgotten as the Scouts took part in STEM activities, day trip to Halifax, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Mi’kmaq Cultural program, Deep Sea Fishing and rocketry.

The eight-night adventure was held at Camp Nedooae near Elderbank Nova Scotia and hosted approximately 4,500 Scouts aged 11-14.

Most youth were from Canada but there were participants from 15 different countries. An additional 1,000 volunteers from across Canada, including three from the West Kootenay, were on site to offer camp support such as activities, coordinate food, provide security, offer medical support, transportation and more.

Quin Tanner, age 11, enjoyed Deep Sea fishing, “when everyone caught mackerel at once and people’s lines got twisted together.”

He also enjoyed the Canada 150 concert alongside 1000’s of other scouts and the fireworks.

Visiting the Citadel was a highlight for Trevor Price, age 12, “The Citadel was cool to explore; there were cannons and Soldiers practicing shooting.”

“Nova Scotia is a lot flatter than B.C.,” said James Price, age 14. “I enjoyed getting out on the water to tour the Halifax waterfront then switch boats to go Deep Sea Fishing.”

Thank you to everyone that supported us in achieving this adventure, especially Save On Food Nelson and their incredible customers.
