Powerley announced that BC Hydro has launched a consumer pilot of the Powerley platform to households equipped with smart (AMI) meters.

By integrating home energy management within a complete smart home solution, the program aims to elevate energy efficiencies and customer engagement through a BC Hydro branded experience called HydroHome. BC Hydro provides electricity to approximately 1.9 million customers across British Columbia.

BC Hydro pilot customers can manage both their energy and their smart home devices through the HydroHome app on their smart phones. With a constant connection to the home’s smart meter, the Powerley Energy Bridge enables real-time access in energy usage for the home as well as disaggregation into various appliances. In addition, the Energy Bridge acts as a smart home hub, allowing for the control and automation of smart devices, including: thermostats, power outlets, light switches, and sensors.

“We are accelerating innovation and engaging our customers in a new relationship with energy,” said Tim Mosley, senior program manager, BC Hydro. “Through our work with Powerley, BC Hydro is elevating customer engagement, driving energy efficiencies and creating a completely new connected home experience.”

The Powerley platform also enables utilities to strengthen their customer relationships and business through analytics and intelligence currently unavailable to utilities today. Through the Powerley Portal, utility teams have secure access to analyze behavioral data, execute advanced demand response programs, manage program logistics and capture energy usage insights.
