After a lengthy hiatus, Kootenay Gallery’s Monday Night at the Movies film series returns to showcase the best in independent film.

The series has moved to a new location, Castlegar’s original cinema – the Castle Theatre - now known as the Old Theatre, located at 185 Columbia Avenue.

First up this season on Sept. 25 is Maudie – a biography of beloved Nova Scotia folk artist, Maud Lewis. Starring Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke, Maudie depicts the struggle and triumph of Maud, who, crippled as a young child by rheumatoid arthritis, seeks to escape the confines of her family and create art, ultimately finding love, independence and her voice as an artist.

Maudie will be followed by Their Finest, a British comedy set during the Second World War, on Oct. 30 and The Big Sick, a 2017 festival favourite, on Nov. 27. December will see a surprise family film just in time for the holidays on Dec. 18. January through April next year will see selections from this month’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Tickets for $9 and series passes for $64 are available at the theatre door or can be purchased at the Kootenay Galley.
