Couple escapes semi rollover on Hwy 3A with minor injuries
A husband and wife in an eastbound semi are lucky to have escaped serious injury after the vehicle rolled over — blocking a westbound off-ramp — just after 6 a.m. on Hwy 3 near Castlegar on Friday, Sept. 20.
Castlegar fire crews attended the scene, primarily to deal with spilled fuel and oil, said chief Gerry Rempel.
Rempel added he thought the couple would be okay, suffering only minor injuries.
"They were pretty lucky though," he said. "A couple of concrete no-post barriers slid down the bank. It's a good thing no one was down there walking their dog."
The semi was loaded with apples. Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement teams and a large tow truck was still on scene at 8:45 a.m. and the off-ramp was still inaccessible.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the accident.
