Castlegar RCMP report that a four-vehicle MVA occurred at about 4:40 p.m. yesterday (May 12) on Highway 3A.

The incident took place east of Castlegar near Tarrys Road.

Corporal Debbie Postnikoff said a northbound red jeep had apparently stopped in the northbound lane, signalling to turn left onto Tarrys Road. The vehicle behind slowed down but not the next vehicle in line which turned right onto the shoulder to avoid a fast-approaching Toyota Rav4. The Rav4 rear-ended the Jeep, pushing it into oncoming traffic where it was hit by a southbound white van.

The 62 year old Castlegar woman who was driving the red Jeep and the 49 year old Nelson woman who was driving the RAV4 were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.  Charges under the Motor Vehicle Act are being considered against the driver of the RAV4.
