The Kootenay Region United Nations Association (KRUNA) and other local peace groups are inviting the public to join them next Thursday, Sept. 21 to mark the International Day of Peace.

The event will be held at Millennium Park at 6 p.m.

The Day of Peace is designated by the United Nations and is intended to highlight the importance of peace in our world. The theme for this year is “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.”

Organizers hope this year’s Day of Peace will “engage and mobilize people throughout the world to show support for refugees and migrants.”

“During these unsettling and uncertain times, we invite you to come and demonstrate our desire for peace in our hearts, homes, communities, nation and world,” said KRUNA in their announcement of the event.

The informal gathering will feature local speakers, performing artists, and an open mic. It is sponsored by the City of Castlegar, the Mir Centre for Peace, KRUNA, and the Union of Spiritual Communities of Christ.
