Castlegar man found by rescue dog

Missing man Norman Reid was located this afternoon..

A search for a missing man in the downtown Castlegar area has ended in success. Norman Reid, a 74-year-old male, went out for his daily walk Tuesday at approximately 9:30 a.m. from his home in the area of Third Ave. and Fourth St. The search was called when Reid, who suffers from dementia and Parkinsons, did not return from his walk at his normal time.

Search and rescue teams from Castlegar, Rossland and Grand Forks joined together in the efforts. Reid was eventually located by Rossland’s rescue dog Jungle. Reid was conscious and speaking with the ambulance crew when they arrived and he was then taken to the hospital.

“We just want to thank all of the volunteers for coming out in the middle of the week and in the middle of the day, and making sure this fellow was found,” said Castlegar search coordinator Barb Ihlen. Local search crews have been working hard having just participated in a several day long search last week in Trail.
