The City of Castlegar’s exempt staff and volunteer firefighters will be seeing a two-per-cent pay increase once a motion passed at the June 13 Committee of the Whole meeting is adopted later this month.

The pay boost is in line with the existing city policy on cost-of-living increases and was already allocated in the city’s five year financial plan and budget.

In setting the rate, city staff examined pay increases in several comparable municipalities. They found two municipalities granting two-per-cent increases, one granting a 2.75 increase and another at 3.9 per cent.

Staff recommended the two-per-cent rate because it was both in line with other municipalities and with the city’s unionized staff in their collective bargaining agreement.
