The city is revisiting conceptual designs for Columbia Ave.

After receiving plenty of feedback on its Columbia Avenue Complete Street Redevelopment Project, the City of Castlegar is working on alternate conceptual designs for the proposed project.

“Based on some of the feedback that we’ve received and continuing the work that we’re doing on the conceptual design, we’re looking at some alternatives, and we’re currently pricing those out for the additional cost of those and what it would mean for property acquisition,” explained Chris Barlow, director of transportation and civic works.

One alternative would be to put in bike lanes on both sides of the street, which Barlow said would mean acquiring more property than what the city currently has.

The new concepts are expected to become public sometime in September.
