Some residents will see changes to garbage and recycling pick-up times due to the large increase the city has seen in recycling numbers.
The increase in participation has left some routes too long, so a realignment is necessary.
The changes will take place in November and affected residences will be notified directly and the information will also be available on the city’s website.
City officials are quite pleased with the recycling participation increase.
“This is the good news part of the whole solid waste program — this is one of the major reasons why we made this move,” said the director of transportation and civic works Chris Barlow.
Under the old waste collection program, Castlegar had a participation rate of 45 per cent of houses setting out recycling in the one-stream recycling bags.
Under the new program, there is a 74 per-cent participation for the container bins (cans, plastics, etc.) and an 81 per-cent participation for the fibre bins (paper, cardboard).
“This is a great achievement for the citizens of Castlegar and the program,” added Barlow.
