Major trauma is the principal cause of death for people under age 45 in Canada.

In B.C., 700,000 people are injured yearly and of those injured:

• 1,800 die

• 9,000 suffer permanent disabilities

• 27,000 are hospitalized

• 41,000 potential years of life are lost
