Seven drivers have been charged with excessive speed and had their vehicles impounded recently on Kootenay roads.
The West Kootenay Traffic and Integrated Road Safety Unit reports that one of their members clocked a 41-year-old driver from Abbotsford doing 202 km/h in a 100 km/h zone near Castlegar. The male lost his vehicle for seven days and was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed and a fine of $483. Police have requested a review of his driver’s license.
“With warmer weather out, police are seeing the speeds increasing,” Sgt. Chad Badry said in a press release.
Another vehicle was stopped because it only had one headlight working. During the subsequent investigation, police officers recovered over $700 in new tools still in their packages that were stolen from a Kootenay area hardware store.
“We are unable to release further details as the investigation is still ongoing,” said Badry. “The manager of the hardware store was definitely surprised and happy about the recovery.”
