It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Dave. With his family by his side, he passed away peacefully on Friday, July 22, 2016 at the age of 64 in Castlegar B.C., after a short but brave battle with cancer.

Dave was born in Trail, B.C. raised in Kinnaird and resided in Castlegar, B.C. He was the youngest son of Cecil and Margaret Munns. He leaves behind his wife Cindy married to for 36 years and together for 39 years, his daughter Krystyn (Kole), his son Jordan, brother Jim (Robbie) Munns, sister in-law Cheryl (Bryan) Hamm, brother in-laws Guy (Geralyn) L’Heureux and Blair (Karen) L’Heureux and their families, along with many treasured friends.

After graduating from Stanley Humphries Secondary School in 1970, he attended Selkirk College, worked at Cominco then he traveled Europe and England to visit family and friends. He also worked in the Yukon, Slocan Sawmill and Celgar Sawmill. After Celgar he returned to Cominco where he spent most of his career and received his millwright apprenticeship, enjoyed working with his crew and mentoring new millwrights before he retired in 2010 after 33 years.

Dave was a quiet man with a great sense of humor and a kind heart and soul. He loved to garden and had a passion for canning-- being very proud of his famous dill pickles. Over the years he enjoyed fishing, swimming, hockey, duplicate bridge, field hockey, camping, boating, bowling, slow pitch, coin and stamp collecting, bird watching, cooking and pumpkin carving. He enjoyed the wildlife that visited our yard as he had a soft spot for all animals, especially his cats. As he would always say “after retirement he became the doorman for the cats”. He enjoyed many trips to England to spend time with extended family and friends. Some of his proudest moments included the birth of his children, all their life achievements, canning a successful batch with his son Jordy, winning a fantasy hockey pool with his daughter Krysty and winning the honor to run with the Olympic torch for the Calgary ’88 Winter Games.

Dave was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Cecil Munns of Castlegar, B.C. and his uncle, Bill (Winn) Maitland, Rivervale, B.C. and his in-laws Claire and Alfred Henshaw.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the medical staff, especially the nurses and care aids, at Unit 61 Foothills Hospital, Tom Baker Cancer Clinic, Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, Castlegar Emergency and Talarico Place. The family would also like to thank relatives, friends and community members for their love and support during this difficult time, you are all angels on earth.

Special thank you to the family that donated the suitable wheelchair to Talarico Place that allowed Dave to visit his home and garden for the last time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Dave Munns to the SPCA or the Castlegar Hospice Society.

Please join us to share your memories of Munnzie on Saturday Aug 27, 2016 at the Castlegar Community Complex, Selkirk Room from 1:00-5:00 p.m.
