Nov. 7, 1935 - July 11, 2017

Mary (Gevatkoff) Cheveldave died peacefully on July 11, 2017 at the age of 81, surrounded by her loving family. She was born into a Doukhobor family in Ootischenia, BC on November 7, 1935 and was the eldest of three children. On September 24, 1955, Mary married the love of her life, Alex Cheveldave, and together they raised five beautiful daughters in Castlegar, BC and spent almost every day of the next 62 years together. She was a devoted wife and mother who always put her family’s needs before her own. Mary had many passions, but her biggest passion was spending time with her family. Mary’s other passions were flower and vegetable gardening, knitting, crocheting, reading & travel. Mary was predeceased by her father Alex Gevatkoff, step father John Ziben, sister Katie Bidinoff, brother John Gevatkoff, and mother Mary Ziben. Mary is survived by her loving husband Alex, daughters Rose, Jennifer, Judy (Craig), Sarah, and Barbara (Gord), seven grandchildren Candice (Jake), Rachel, Timothy, Robyn, Megan, Jessica and Cassidy and two great grandchildren Mason and Aria. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the Castlegar Health Clinic, the Castlegar paramedics that assisted them, and the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, especially the staff in the intensive care unit. The service to celebrate Mary’s life took place on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Brilliant Cultural Centre and she was interned at the Kinnaird Park Memorial Cemetery. Thank you to the Castlegar Funeral Home for their compassionate service and a special thank you to the Officiant, Peter Relkoff, the Hymn Coordinator, Mike W. Kanigan, the singers, the cooks and all who were able to attend and make this celebration as beautiful as Mary. May she rest in peace in the Heavenly Kingdom.
