Nicole Rae Hackett, age 38, passed away on June 1, 2017 in Surrey B.C. following a long battle with cancer, which she waged with unbelievable strength, determination and dignity.
Nicole was raised in Castlegar, BC, lived in Trail for a brief time, then she moved to the lower mainland to pursue her dream of becoming a mechanical engineer. After graduation from BCIT in 2003, she permanently relocated to the coast with her husband Shane. Nicole found her dream job in 2007 when she started working at BC Hydro and worked her way up to being a Project Manager with the Corporation.
Nicole was a competitive figure skater in her younger years and rediscovered that passion in dance four years ago. At the age of 16, Nicole was selected to go to Ottawa and participate in Forum for Young Canadians, at which time she discovered her love of politics, for which she has been active until her passing. Nicole was a strong Federal Conservative Volunteer. She served as the Financial Agent for the Cloverdale-South Surrey-White Rock EDA, later serving on the executive of the Langley EDA, and finally she held the position of President of the Cloverdale-Langley City EDA. In addition she was elected as a BC Representative on the National Constitution Committee.
Nicole is survived by her best friend and husband Shane Closson, her fur-baby Alex, her parents Ray and Pam Hackett, her sisters Kimberley Hackett and Meghan (Mike) Hazelwood as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended families. She is predeceased by her grandparents Leonard and Mary (Echara) Hackett, her Aunt Shelia Hackett and her fur-baby Raven.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday July 15, 2017 at 10:30 am
at 5 Star Catering in Cloverdale, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Forum for Young Canadians in memory of Nicole so another young Canadian can find their love for politics just as she had.
