Saints host UVic Vikes on Saturday
Selkirk College will look to complete a five-game regular season sweep of the University of Victoria on Saturday when the defending league champions visit the Castlegar Rec Complex. Faceoff is set for 7:30 PM.
The Saints are hoping to continue the momentum they built with last weekend’s sweep of Thompson Rivers and Simon Fraser, while inching closer to the team’s first B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League regular season title.
Selkirk is five points clear of second-place SFU and needs seven points from their seven remaining games in order to clinch top spot and home-ice advantage through the postseason.
Saturday’s game will be crucial for a Vikes squad that is battling Thompson Rivers (7-8-0-2, 16 points) and Eastern Washington (6-11-0-1, 13 points) for playoff positioning. Only three points seperate third place from fifth, with the top four regular season finishers advancing to the BCIHL postseason.
"UVic is coming off a big win last weekend (7-0 over Trinity Western) and they’re obviously in the middle of a big playoff race," says Selkirk head coach Jeff Dubois. "They always compete and bring a complete effort, and they’ve given us some of our toughest games this season."
The Saints have won their four previous meetings against the Vikes, including 10-2 and 6-1 victories on home ice. They also picked up a pair of wins on Vancouver Island, topping UVic by 4-3 and 5-4 (OT) scores during the opening weekend of the regular season.
Victoria is led offensively by former BCHLer Shawn Mueller, who sits fifth in league scoring with 14 goals and 26 points in 18 games, and Adam Klein, who is tied for 6th with 17 assists.
Meanwhile, Jordan Wood continues to lead the Saints and the BCIHL in goals and points with 19 and 37 respectively, while limemate Logan Proulx sits third with 30 points. Selkirk blueliner Kam Crawford leads all BCIHL defencemen with 20 points.
Tickets for Friday’s games will be available at the door for $8 (Adults) and $5 (Selkirk students & staff, seniors, children 6 & older).
