A photographer was in Castlegar on Monday taking photos of the Castlegar Sculpturewalk to create a Google tour.

Jody Wall from Views 4 Business was in town working with Castlegar Sculpturewalk, Kootenay Rockies Tourism and Destination Castlegar to take photos of new sculptures for the Castlegar Sculpturewalk Google street view tour.

“We did about 35 panoramas today within the Sculpturewalk,” said Wall.

He photographed this year’s sculptures and some of the older ones that now have new homes, like the 2016 People’s Choice winner, Imagine the Stories by Rabi’a and Carl Schlichting, outside the Castlegar Library.

“Jody came last year and we actually did the ones that are scattered around the city, like the ones that are permanently there — the People’s Choice. So those can still be part of the tour coming up this year,” explained Joy Barrett, executive director of Castlegar Sculpturewalk.

“So the only ones we did this year are the ones that are in the actual walk and then say, this is a new location, so we’ve done that,” she added, gesturing to Imagine the Stories.

Wall also photographed Share the Road by Alexis Mainland, which has been leased by the Lion’s Head Pub for the first time.

The photographer will be back at the end of July to take additional photos for up to 35 businesses.

“We’ve got subsidy for 35 businesses to get Google street view tours, with a [partial] subsidy from Kootenay Rockies Tourism and there’s 10 spots available right now,” explained Wall.

Anyone interested in one of those spots can contact Andrea Ryman at Destination Castlegar at destination@castlegar.com.
