A Castlegar production company is headed to China.

Tyler Hadikin, Steve Hall and Drikie Van Tonder of Stacked Films will be going to Hong Kong to film the Green Race for Martin Cai of TGR International Limited.

Stacked Films connected with Cai while he was in town running the Green Race in Castlegar.

“[We] got some really cool footage and stuff for them and we’re just working on the edit now, but they liked it so much that they basically just said, ‘You know, we’re looking for people to cover these events,’” says Hadikin. “These are huge events, so there’s thousands of people running in these events overseas.”

The team is excited to take on the opportunity and is also working on getting permission to go to Japan to cover the Green Race there.

Having covered the Green Race in Castlegar, Hadikin, Hall and Van Tonder have learned some of what to expect when they shoot in Hong Kong.

“The biggest challenge was keeping up with them,” says Van Tonder.

“We were spread apart and that was really difficult because you need two cameras on one thing to get the different vantage points,” says Hall.

“It was a bit of a learning experience and a bit of challenge just covering an event that large, so now we have a better idea just carrying forward into Hong Kong and a better plan to kind of handle that thing,” adds Hadikin.

Once the film of the race is complete it will be released on the Stacked Films Facebook page, The Green Race CA Facebook page, and tgr.run.

The team is also wrapping up filming for a film for the Lower Columbia Initiatives Corporation’s (LCIC) Metal Tech Alley.

“That’s coming to an end in the next couple of weeks, if everything goes to schedule, just before Honk Kong, and then as soon as we get back we’re going to basically start working on that,” says Hadikin.

He wanted to give a big thank you to LCIC for being so great to work with on the project.

Also coming up, Stacked Films will be showing a film at Kinesis: A Celebration of Kootenay Film, which will take place at the Nelson Civic Theatre from Sept. 22 to 25.

“They contacted us, asked us to submit something that involved somebody from the Kootenays being filmed, or filmers from the Kootenays or being filmed in the Kootenays and we had all three with our entry, so we decided to put our video, which is called ‘Impossible Is Nothing,’ about a dirt bike rider who teams up with a jet boat and covers the Columbia Basin or the Columbia Valley,” explains Hall.

Hadikin says “Impossible Is Nothing” is the film that launched Stacked Films and “it got us a lot of attention.” It has been remastered, re-coloured and re-titled for Kinesis.

It was “Impossible Is Nothing” that led them down to Oregon to cover UTV Takeover in June.

“We got down there and one of the event organizers of UTV Takeover, his name was Jim McIntire, and we were talking to him and he’s like, ‘Man I love that jet boat, dirt bike video I must have watched that 1o times,’” recounts Hall.

The other big news for Stacked Films is that the team just recently moved into an office at 1402 Columbia Ave.

“If people want to come say hi or just see what we’re up to then feel free,” says Hadikin.

“Doors open,” adds Hall.
