After spending 35 years selling flooring to West Kootenay residents, Brian and Carol Millar have handed the keys to Nufloors West Kootenay Carpets over to new owners.

The store has gone through a few name changes over the years, but the Millars have always been at the helm. The pair will now move into semi-retirement while they continue to own and maintain several commercial properties around Castlegar. But they will now have more time to enjoy some of the things they love to do and things that are important to them — expect to see Brian out on the golf course more often and Carol will continue with her volunteer work at St. Rita’s Catholic Church. Enjoying travel and spending time with family is also on their to-do list.

New owners Zachary and Andrea Linderman also own Exzact Tile, a Castlegar company that provides tile and stone installations. The company has been providing installation services for Nufloors customers for 15 years. The tile company has grown a lot since its beginnings with one van and one installer.

The Lindermans and Millars have developed a good working relationship over the years and the business transition will benefit because of it. Brian will continue to offer advice and support to the new owners.

“I just want to keep the legacy going, and all the work that Brian has put into it,” said Zachary. “It’s the next generation — almost family but not quite — coming in and taking over.”

Zachary says making the decision to take over Nufloors seemed like a natural progression for his professional life.

Andrea will also be working at the store. She loves working with customers and making design plans.

“Just being able to be an owner in this community is a really wonderful opportunity,” said Andrea. “We are enjoying that.”

The Lindermans have plans to modernize and streamline the showroom. They will introduce inspiration features and showcase their own products on the floors.

Andrea says keeping up with the latest trends and featuring new products is going to be a priority for the couple.

The current Nufloors staff and installation contractors are remaining on board making for a seamless transition.

“We can keep the operation rolling and stay local,” said Zachary. “I really wanted to have local people here that are already in the business to carry forward.”
