Pinnacle Professional Accounting was recognized at the 9th Annual Thompson Okanagan Kootenay Commercial Building Awards last week in Kelowna.
The company won the award of excellence for a mixed-use building.
The awards recognized the best in commercial and industrial buildings completed prior to July 31, 2017, in the Thompson, Okanagan and Kootenay regions.
Willow Enewold and Chris Brien are the owners and designers of the building located on Columbia Avenue in downtown Castlegar, and Maida Custom Homes was the developer and general contractor.
“We’re in a small town and it was a small project and it was self-designed — we didn’t have an architect or the engineering,” explained Enewold. “When I look at the competition and some of the other projects that won … It feels kind of neat to have gone toe-to-toe with them and to have won an award.”
“It was a big project, we had cooperation from the city, lots of players were involved, so it is not just a win for us — it feels like a community thing,” added Enewold.
Enewold and Brien had a goal of enhancing the downtown core with their project. “We’ve had lots of feedback on how happy folks have been to see this project come up downtown, so that’s just sort of an extra little shot that makes us feel good about contributing something,” said Enewold.
The company has been involved with Sculpturewalk for years and the landscaping plans incorporate multiple sculptures.
”We have the sculptures out front and the green space and we wanted it to be something that everyone can enjoy so winning the award made us feel great about putting the project together,” added Enewold.
The building’s main floor is used for the business and features offices, colourful open spaces for meeting with clients, a boardroom and all the necessary accommodations to meet the needs of the staff. The basement is also be used to meet the needs of the business.
Enewold and Brien each live in one of the two apartments that make up the top floor. Both are bright and modern with open floor plans and practical design features, including custom cabinetry and closets by Boardwalk Enterprises based out of Thrums.
