Nearly one year after announcing the purchase of two Husky retail fuel sites in Nelson and Glenmerry, Slocan Valley Co-op is adding a third retail fuel site in Castlegar.

The Board of Directors of Slocan Valley Co-op approved the purchase of the Castlegar Husky site, located at 1415 Columbia Avenue. The site will be re-branded to Co-op which is expected to be complete in September 2023.

“Slocan Valley Co-op is proud to announce this purchase as it allows us to offer even more products, services and benefits to our growing membership base,” said Chris Sapriken, general manager of Slocan Valley Co-op.

“The purchase of these retail gas bars in Nelson, Glenmerry and Castlegar are significant milestones in our plans to expand into the major markets in our region,” said Sapriken. “Growing our fuel network benefits our existing member-owners, and provides even more opportunities for customers and community members to shop Co-op.”

The site will be purchased from Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) as part of its agreement to acquire 171 Husky retail fuel sites from Cenovus Energy Inc., announced in August 2022.

The Castlegar fuel site will be closed for renovations and re-branding from Sept. 11 - 17, to perform critical infrastructure and building upgrades. The new fuel site will offer an expanded selection of quality products, including award-winning Co-operative Coffee, Co-op Private Label products and TOP TIER Co-op fuel.

“We are looking forward to starting the renovation process and are proud to unveil another iconic Co-op shield in Castlegar,” he said.

The gas bar is expected to reopen, ready to serve the community on Sept. 18. Slocan Valley Co-op is planning a grand opening event in October to celebrate and welcome members, customers and the community to its new site.
