In early June, the cadets and staff of 131 Kootenay, Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corp had their Annual Ceremonial Review.
The cadets, who live in Trail, Rossland and Grand Forks, were inspected by Captain Jim Smee, CD (retired). Captain Smee is the former Deputy Commanding Officer of the 44th Field Engineer Squadron.
“This has been a great year for out unit and we are looking forward to another of sailing, adventure and fun,” said Lt(N) David Cherrington, Commanding Officer, 131 Kootenay, Royal Canadian Sea Cadets.
During the parade several cadets received awards:
Marksmanship Award: Petty Officer First Class Hayley Behl
Top Rookie: Able Seaman Samuel Eyre
Most Improved Cadet: Petty Officer Second Class Hayden Guy
Best Dress and Deportment: Petty Officer First Class Ryan Buckley
Lord Strathcona Medal: Petty Officer First Class Ryan Buckley
Top All Around Cadet: Petty Officer First Class Naomi Savage
Legion Medal of Excellence: Petty Officer First Class Naomi Savage
After the parade, cadets had displays showing off their training for the year. The displays included Sailing, Navigation, Marksmanship, Signals and Knot Tying.
Several Cadets also found out that would be attending summer Training in July and August. The training is held HMCS Quadra on Vancouver Island.
Able Seaman Lochlan Reid – General Training

Master Seaman Jordan Cherrington – Basic Seamanship
Petty Officer Naomi Savage – Shipwright
Two cadets will also be instructing for the summer at HMCS Quadra.
Petty Officer First Class Ryan Buckley – Sail Staff
Petty Officer First Class Hayley Behl – Regulating Staff
The Corp will start a new training year in September. Everyone from the ages from 12 to 18 is invited to join this low cost youth program.
