Be More Than a Bystander presentation takes place in Castlegar Oct. 6

Former BC Lion Angus Reid will be speaking about sexual violence, harassment and bullying.

The Castlegar Violence Against Women in Relationship (VAWIR) committee is hosting a Be More Than a Bystander Presentation for the community on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Castlegar Recreation Complex.

The presentation is focused on providing practical tools to empower people to “stand up instead of stand by.”

The Be More Than a Bystander program addresses the complex and challenging subject of sexual violence, harassment and bullying.

Former BC Lions player Angus Reid will be one of the presenters. The BC Lions have partnered with the Ending Violence Association (EVA BC) to bring programming like this to schools and communities.

Reid played professional football for 13 years, earning multiple all-stars and two Grey Cup championships. He now travels North America speaking to groups about what it takes to really succeed.

This is a free event and open to the community. Organizers suggest the event is suitable for youth in middle school or above and adults.

Another presentation will take place at Selkirk College the same day, but that event is just for students and staff.
