Blueberry Creek Community School held their summer reading program wind-up at the school on Aug. 15.

The Blueberry Creek Community School’s Summer Reading Club windup happened on Wednesday, August 15 and was a huge success. There were 65 participants that attended the event that included face painting, games, a piñata, and lunch that was provided by Panago Pizza, Quizno’s and Tim Horton’s restaurants. The celebration ended with the presentation of medals , certificates and goodie bags for all SRC participants. Top Reader awards were also given out and included Rylynn Voykin, the top preschool reader, Mason Voykin, the top K-grade 2 reader, and Ryley Lockhurst as the top grade 3-7 reader.

The program was a huge success this year with 96 children registered in five different groups. Programming included a novel study for the grade 3-7 group, trips to the school library, science experiments, visits from the Castlegar Water Ambassador, Bear Aware and Kootenay Association of Science and Technology, planting, baking and crafting. All three of these age groups were given opportunities throughout the summer to maintain and improve their reading and literacy skills as well as build confidence, make new friends and prepare for either preschool or school come September. Special thanks to all of the community sponsors who donated to this very popular program.
