Castlegar a stop on Guatemalan speaker's tour

Fair trade and sustainable land struggles key points in Mir Centre presentation

Leocadio Juracan, a leader in the Guatemalan farmers movement and currently touring Canada, will speak at 7 p.m. _ Thursday, June 12 at the Mir Centre for Peace, Selkirk College, Castlegar Campus.  He will talk about the power of fair trade to support sustainable land struggles and the pressures currently facing farmers in Guatemala with mega‐development projects.

According to nursing instructor, Mary Ann Morris "I just returned from Guatemala with the nursing students and had a wonderful experience all around.  Everywhere we went, people were talking about Leocadio and the CCDA.  We kept hearing about his integrity, vision, and their incredible efforts to mobilize and unite farmers and Indigenous people throughout Guatemala.

We are so incredibly FORTUNATE to have Leocadio coming to speak with us - let folks know this is a presentation not to be missed - wow!"
