On Feb. 22, local athletes, along with RCMP officers in Castlegar will brave the icy waters of the Columbia River at Millennium Park to support Special Olympics BC. The Polar Plunge, set to take place at 1 p.m., invites community members to participate or donate to raise funds for local programs.
The team's fundraising goal for this year’s event was $2,500. But by Feb. 10, that goal had already been met, so the bar has been raised to $5,000.
Local fire department and search and rescue teams will also participate in the event.
All the local funds raised will stay within the community to directly support Special Olympics BC. SOBC is an organization dedicated to providing individuals with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to stay active, build relationships, and foster community connections.
Community members can register for the plunge or donate. Anyone not participating is encouraged to come out and watch.
