The Castlegar Arts Council (CAC) is hosting a pair of film screenings in conjunction with Co-op Week Oct. 13-19.
Through compelling real-world examples and insightful interviews, A New Economy is a documentary film that offers an opportunity to celebrate local co-operatives and credit unions and discover how these organizations remain financially viable while continuously giving back to their members and communities.
The screenings will also feature a talk by Jon Steinman, food co-op icon and author of Grocery Story: Food Co-ops in the Age of Grocery Giants.
The event will also feature the chapbook release of Investing in Ourselves: The History of Credit Unions and Co-operatives in the Kootenays by award-winning local historian, Greg Nesteroff.
"Please join us as we explore how we can contribute to more equitable economic systems in our community and beyond," says the CAC.
The first screening takes place on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Castle Theatre in downtown Castlegar, this event is in celebration of Co-op Week and International Credit Union Day.
The second event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Castlegar United Church, this event is in recognition of United Church of Canada World Food Sunday.
