A free community connections event at the Castlegar and District Community Complex will bring people and service providers together on Nov. 13.

The event is coordinated by Castlegar Community Services and will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“The purpose of this event is to bring as many agencies and organizations together as possible, to share with our community the many supports and resources available to help folks live well and save money: and to have fun while doing it,” says Theresa Swan, event coordinator.

“There are a lot of local supports in place for both families and individuals, and this is an event where those services come to you.”

The family-friendly event is open to everyone and will include a free nutritious lunch and live entertainment as well as children's activities, a community art activity and door prizes.

More than 30 services will be showcased at the event and people can browse the provider's tables and interactive displays in a casual manner to learn more about what they offer.

You can also chat with staff from various organizations, pick up some free winter wear, get support with filling out subsidy forms, access take-home resources and even get a haircut.

Participants include Better At Home (seniors services), Red Cross, COINS, mental health, Victim Services, City of Castlegar, Hospice, Kootenay Family Place, Kootenay Career Development, Special Olympics, Neighbours United, Nav Care and many more.

This event is being brought to the community by a partnership of several organizations: Castlegar Community Services, Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy, the Castlegar Integrated Services Collaborative, Kootenay IRIS and a host of volunteers. Funding has been provided by the ReDi Grant program (administered through RDCK), Columbia Basin Trust, and Columbia Power.

"We hope to raise awareness about the many programs, services and resources available to support the well-being of people in our community," adds Swan. "Increased awareness of available support can hopefully bring some relief to some families experiencing financial pressures."
