Kootenay Rockies Tourism hosted their annual general meeting and conference in Castlegar last week, and participants not only learned ways to sharpen the tools of their trade, they also got to sample some of Castlegar’s highlights.

Along with the organization’s AGM, the event featured special speakers talking about various tourism and marketing topics.

But Destination Castlegar’s Andrea Ryman said one of the best parts of the conference for the 65 attendees was the Taste of Castlegar dining event.

When faced with the challenge of selecting a caterer for the conference, Ryman said she just couldn’t pick one. She then reached out to area restaurants to invite them to jointly participate in the event.

The Grateful Table, Tacos El Gringo, Humble Bean Cofee, The Village Bistro, Chef’s Choice and Kim’s Creations all showed what great flavours Castlegar has to offer. Beverages were provided by Tailout Brewery, Tonik Distillery in the Slocan Valley and Valley of the Spring Winery from the Nakusp area.

“Local musician Jason Thomas played familiar cover tunes and the Sandman conference room was buzzing with great energy,” said Ryman. “The crowd was blown away by the quality and variety of cuisine we have to offer here in Castlegar.”

Henry Tso from Indigenous BC told Ryman, “Who would have known Castlegar tastes so good!”

Karen Homes from Destination BC was also impressed with the event and the after-party featuring a live band that was held at Tailout Brewery.

Guests were also treated to swag bags of local goods from Castlegar and beer from the West Kootenay Ale Trail.
