Castlegar firefighters join Movember challenge

The CFD Stachemasters will be growing mustaches all month

Castlegar firefighters are once again joining the Movember challenge.

A group of 12 firefighters have formed the CFD Stachemasters to participate in the Movember fundraising challenge. Each of them will be growing a mustache for the entire month.

Movember is a registered charity looking to change the face of men’s health, specifically in the areas of mental health, suicide prevention, prostrate cancer and testicular cancer.

This year, the Castlegar team aims to raise $12,500.

Last year the 16 team members raised almost $14,000 and did amazingly well in the Great Canadian Fire Challenge — a friendly competition between fire departments to see who could raise the most money.

The challenge had 381 participating teams with a total of 4404 members. The Castlegar team managed to come in 12th place, far surpassing many larger teams from much bigger cities.

You can donate to Movember through the Castlegar Stachemasters’ team page on ca.movember.com . For additional ways to donate, contact the team’s captain Nick Pieszak at 403-605-3206 or nicholaspieszak@gmail.com.

If you are having thoughts of suicide, call the Canada Suicide Prevention Service at 1-833-456-4566.
