The Castlegar Fire Department Stachemasters have once again surpassed their Movember fundraising goal in their efforts to support men’s health and mental health causes.

The team of 12 firefighters raised $12,730 and also finished in eighth place in the Great Canadian Fire Challenge — a friendly competition between 242 fire departments. Many of those teams come from larger cities and had 20-30 team members participating.

“It is pretty impressive that little Castlegar could place eighth,” said team captain Nick Pieszak.

“As always, we are very grateful for the community’s support.”

Toy Drive

Next on the CFD’s charity agenda is their annual toy drive.

The drive to collect new, unwrapped toys will be held Dec. 11 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Castlegar A&W. A&W will be offering a coupon for a teen burger and root beer to everyone who donates.

They toys will be given to the Community Harvest Food Bank for their annual Christmas hamper distribution.

If you can’t make it to the drive, toys are also being accepted at the Fire Hall Monday to Friday during office hours.

Fire Chief Sam Lattanzio says the donations are already rolling in and the community is being very generous.
