Several local non-profit organizations have recently benefited from the Kootenay Savings Credit Union Care Wear Program.
KSCU employees donate $1 each week to dress casually on Fridays. Their donations are then matched by the Kootenay Savings Community Foundation and donated to organizations chosen by the employees.
This year $21,206 was donated to 25 different organizations.
Castlegar Search and Rescue (CSAR) was among this year’s recipients.
“Castlegar Search & Rescue would like to thank Kootenay Savings Credit Union and its employees for their generous donation,” said CSAR member Benjamin Verliere.
“This kind of support that helps us run our operations and acquire specialty gear is much appreciated and much needed.”
Other Castlegar area recipients include Community Harvest Food Bank, Castlegar & District Community Services and the Circle of Indigenous Nations Society.
Since the program began in 2004, More than $400,000 has been donated to Kootenay organizations.
