Recent outbreaks of COVID-19 in the Interior Health region have prompted organizers to postpone a hospice fundraising event.
An open-air event was originally scheduled for Thursday, July 30 in downtown Castlegar.
“The health and safety of our workers, volunteers and attendees is our main concern and we choose to be community leaders by example,” said Castlegar Hospice Society (CHS) director Suzanne Lehbauer.
“Thank you to all the merchants who were taking part and we look forward to seeing you — even if it’s behind a mask — soon.”

Lehbauer says they will be monitoring the situation and looking for a date to reschedule the event towards the end of August.
Like so many other non-profits, the CHS has seen a huge drop in revenue due to COVID-19. Two of the agency’s annual fundraisers — a golf tournament and fashion show gala — have already been cancelled.
Tickets for the hospice’s raffle draw featuring $500, $1000 and $2000 prizes will be available at a few locations this week.
Representatives will be selling tickets this Thursday at Kootenay Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday at No Frills from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday at the Castlegar Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursday, July 30 at Wests from 2 p.m to 5 p.m.
