The Castlegar Hospice Society has installed a wind phone near the Millennium Park gazebo.
The concept of a wind phone originated in Japan in 2010 when a garden designer came up with the idea to help him cope with a loved one’s death. The idea was that he could talk to his relative and let the wind carry his message. Since then, wind phones have been popping up all around the world.
Castlegar’s wind phone comes in the form of a decommissioned telephone booth.
A plaque on the phone states:
Though I’ve lost you, I can hear your voice in the silent echoes of your absence. You speak to me through rustling leaves, whistling wind and bowing branches. Though I’ve lost you, I feel you here in this shrine of trees in nature’s sanctuary. This Wind Phone is for all who grieve. You are welcome to find solace here. Find comfort in their memory and may you hear their voice in the wind.
