Thanks to a partnership with Mercer Celgar, the Castlegar and District Recreation Commission was able to help support five local ice user organizations with cash donations.

The money comes through Mercer Celgar’s sponsorship of the Zamboni at the Castlegar and District Community Complex arena. The company has supported the initiative since 2013.

This year $1,000 cheques were delivered to Castlegar Minor Hockey, Castlegar Skating Club, Selkirk College Saints Men’s Hockey and Castlegar Rebels.

All of the above organizations have had to adapt or stop their activities due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The Selkirk College Saints announced the cancellation of their season at the end of November. The Castlegar Rebels and the rest of the KIJHL have paused regular season play until at least Dec. 8.
