The Lifesaving Society recognized Megan Wyatt (R) with a service medal and the Castlegar and District Aquatic Centre with two awards, held here by Heather Anderson recreation service supervisor Heather Anderson.

Castlegar lifeguard Meagan Wyatt has been recognized by the Lifesaving Society for her "invaluable leadership" in the Kootenays.

Wyatt has been an instructor for the Lifesaving Society since 2008 and has served as a national trainer since 2019. She has also served as a member of the organization's program advisory group, mentored apprentices and contributed to branch projects that promote water safety.

"Her dedication and empathetic style of mentoring reflect a strong commitment to excellence and to advance the Lifesaving Society's mission," said the society when they recognized her with a service medal at the 113th Annual Commonwealth Awards for Honour and Rescue.

Many people will also recognize Wyatt for her many years of work with Special Olympics and as the head lifeguard at the Castlegar Community Complex's aquatic centre.

The Castlegar and District Aquatic Centre also received two awards: Highest Participation in Lifesaving Society First Aid Programs (population less than 20,000) and Highest Participation in Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Programs (population less than 20,000).
