The Castlegar and District Hospital Foundation launched its Light Up fundraising campaign for 2024.

The annual event helps support health care at the Castlegar Health Centre and Talarico Place with equipment purchases and other areas of greatest need.

In recent years the campaign has helped to purchase lab equipment and a portable ultrasound machine for the emergency room. This year, funds will be directed towards a state-of-the-art 12-Lead ECG machine for the emergency room and a warming cabinet for the Urgent and Primary Care Centre.

The ECG machine gives a complete picture of the heart's activity and is an important tool for making critical decisions related to heart disorders.

A warming cabinet warms blankets to help keep a patient's body at the correct core temperature and is also used to warm IV and surgical irrigation fluids.

Pledge Day is this Friday, Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Castlegar Community Health Centre. Swing by to drop off your donation, enjoy a hot beverage and a treat and listen to live musical entertainment.

Until the postal strike is over, donations should be made in person or online through the organization's website castlegarhospitalfoundation.org. Official tax receipts will be issued.
