The City of Castlegar has made it through the first round of voting in CBC’s Search for B.C.’s Best Small Town.

Castlegar beat out Fruitvale with 59 per cent of the votes cast in the online competition.

That means in this week’s vote, held on March 24, Castlegar will face off against Nakusp.

The elimination-style contest runs from March 15 to April 25. A different section of the province is up for a vote each day from Tuesday to Friday and the day to vote for Interior communities like Castlegar is Thursday.

Elsewhere in the West Kootenay, Nelson defeated Radium Hot Springs, Kaslo defeated Creston, Christina Lake defeated Elkford, Rossland defeated Fairmont Hot Springs and Nakusp defeated Trail.

You can cast your vote online at cbc.ca/bestsmalltownbc. Voters are then encouraged to share the link on social media and use the hashtag #BestSmallTownBC.
