Castlegar IRIS is once again hosting a free Seniors Resource Expo.

The event features booths and information tables from a wide array of service providers and is held in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

All seniors and the people who support them including caregivers, family, neighbours and friends are welcome to attend.

Refreshments and conversation will be ongoing in the cafe area.

Registration is not required.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 13 at IRIS’s regular venue – the Kinnaird Park Community Church building at 1250 26th St.

Home Owner Grant help

During the expo, IRIS and the Columbia Alliance for Literacy (CBAL) are partnering together to offer seniors help with applying for their property tax Home Owner Grant. To apply at the expo you will need to bring your property tax assessment notice or letter from the city, and your SIN.

In addition, from 10 - 11 a.m. staff from the city’s finance department will be on hand to explain the low-interest Tax Deferment Program that allows seniors to defer paying their property taxes to a later date.
