Castlegar has once again been recognized with five blooms — the highest possible ranking — from Communities in Bloom Canada (CIB).

Castlegar was also awarded the bronze prize in the CIB grand champions category. This is quite an accomplishment as in order to enter the grand champion category, a community must have already been invited to compete at the national level and previously won the population, international challenge or class of champions category.

Castlegar CIB was also a top-three finalist in two outstanding achievement award categories — plant and floral display and youth involvement for the Kinnaird Elementary School mural project. This portion of the CIB competition includes both national and international competitors.

Communities in Bloom is a volunteer and partnership-driven organization that uses a multi-tiered competitive evaluation process to foster community strength, involvement, and continuous improvement. Judges tour participating communities each summer.

Castlegar’s CIB is a group of dedicated volunteers who are responsible for many of the beautiful floral displays seen around the community.

The next activity on the CIB calendar is a wreath-making workshop on Nov. 27. The cost to participate is $50 and greens and decorations are supplied. Contact valentinefield01@gmail.com to register.
