Stanley Humphries Secondary student Ethan Johnston has been awarded a $40,000 post-secondary scholarship with The Cmolik Foundation in recognition of his achievements in overcoming adversity and excelling in his studies.

The foundation’s selection committee was impressed with Johnston’s application, his academic goals, and his future career aspirations. The award recognizes and honours Johnston’s hard work and commitment with this financial award and is keen to support Johnston pursuing a career in sports management or broadcasting.

Johnston plans on, “pursuing a Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. This will lead me down the path of sports management or broadcasting. This will blend my passion for sports with my leadership skills and love for public speaking.”

“Without hyperbole, Ethan is the most exceptional student I have taught in over twenty years of teaching,” Ian Leitch, a teacher at Stanley Humphries elaborates. “In addition to the natural day-to-day leadership he demonstrates, he was voted in as the student council president, and the same joy he brings to a classroom, he extends to the entire school.”

The Cmolik Foundation believes in the power of education to transform a student’s life journey. In addition to providing students with the funding to realize their dreams, the foundation provides students with a mentor, a supportive community of scholarship peers and alumni, as well as access to ongoing special events and professional opportunities. Students become part of a larger community dedicated to their post-secondary success.

The Cmolik Foundation was founded in 2008 to provide opportunities for youth who have experienced adversity in their lives. Rooted in a profound belief in the power of education to transform and empower, they support undergraduate and post-secondary education, mentorship, field trips and summer camps to support the healthy development of our youth.

The Cmolik Foundation provides $40,000 scholarships to deserving students from across British Columbia. Currently they have 100 students enrolled in the ccholarship program. As well, the foundation offers several $30,000 scholarships to deserving alumni to pursue graduate studies. Finally, the foundation is also known for the SFU Cmolik $100,000 Prize for the best enhancement in public education.
