The City of Castlegar's Winter Wonderland arrives this Saturday, Dec. 7 as does the Castlegar News' December to Remember shopping event. 

December to Remember features 14 businesses all offering special sales on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Shoppers can enter the grand prize drawing valued at $1000 at the participating businesses: Undercover Secrets, Nordic Studio, West's Deptartment Store, Pharmasave, Moonrise Boutique, Castlegar & District Hospital Auxiliary Treasure Shop, Emerald City Tattoo, Squeezed Grape, Castlegar Legion, Head to Toe, Dubz Smoke and Vape Shop, Recharge Fuel & Fitness,The Grateful Table and Yes, Please.

Winter Wonderland runs in front of City Hall from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The partnership between the city, Castlegar Rotary Club, Castlegar Sunrise Rotary and Trowelex, promises a magical experience for families and residents of all ages. 

Features include free crafts and activities, live music, face painting and story time in an igloo. Free refreshments including hot dogs, nachos, hot chocolate, popcorn, s’mores and non-alcoholic mulled wine are also available.

Santa Claus will be arriving during the event and will be available for photos (fee applies). The day will end with the Christmas tree lighting at City Hall at 4 p.m.

A new event this year is a fundraising gingerbread house contest hosted by Habitat for Humanity. Learn more at hfhsebc.org.
 
To ease downtown congestion, there will be a free shuttle during the events sponsored by Kootenay Charters Ltd. It will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. between the Castlegar & District Community Complex (starting at 11 a.m.), Pioneer Arena and City Hall approximately every 30 minutes. The last bus will leave downtown just after 4 p.m.
 
Kootenay Centre Cinemas will be hosting free holiday movie screenings as part of the festivities. Elf will play at 9:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m., and 10 a.m. Wonka (2023) will run at 9:30 a.m. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

And while you are in the Christmas Spirit, don't forget to enter your home the City of Castlegar and Castlegar News' Merry and Bright Holiday Decoration contest.
