One of Castlegar's outdoor community ice rinks has opened for the season.
The larger of the two rinks at Kinnaird Park (2501 14th Ave.) is open daily for skating and hockey from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The rink is free to use and has lighting during the evening hours.
The city plans to open the smaller rink at the park next week.
Visitors are encouraged to only use the rinks for skating and hockey and are asked to be mindful of others sharing the ice. While skating chairs and walker bars are not provided, individuals are welcome to bring their own.
The city says the outdoor rinks will remain open as long as temperatures stay below freezing. Temporary closures may occur due to weather conditions or maintenance needs.
Current rink status is available at castlegar.ca/rinkstatus.
