Things are taking shape for the Habitat for Humanity Southeast BC four-family multiplex build project located at 560 8th St. in Castlegar.
Thanks to the support from the people of Castlegar and area along with the overwhelming generosity of local businesses, the campaign for funds, materials, and volunteers is going well. As of right now, the completion date and possession of the new homes for Habitat partner families looks to be near the end of March 2023
“We still need support from individuals and companies to help us build these much-needed homes for deserving Habitat for Humanity partner families,” says Neil Coburn board chair for Habitat Southeast BC. “The momentum is just getting started as we will soon welcome teams of corporate and service club members on-site to help in the building of these homes.”
“Our priority continues to be the campaign for funds and donated materials and services. But equally important is the search for our new Habitat Partner families,” said Coburn.
Right now, the focus for this Habitat for Humanity Southeast BC build is on finding families who currently live within the Castlegar and surrounding area and have demonstrated needs for the housing we can provide.
Applications are welcome from families who might not be able to afford a conventional mortgage, but through our selection process, may qualify for one of our four family homes — one of which is fully accessible for a family with a person(s) with mobility issues.
This build, in partnership with the City of Castlegar and funded through core support from CMHC, Columbia Basin Trust, and BC Housing is just the start of a renewed commitment by Habitat for Humanity Southeast BC to build affordable homes throughout the Kootenay/Boundary region.
Habitat Southeast BC builds affordable housing for ownership and provides mortgage and home ownership support. It also operates two ReStores in Castlegar and Grand Forks.
