Local Champions for Literacy were honoured on Monday at a ceremony at Selkirk College in Castlegar. In all, 21 champions were acknowledged at the event.
"A Champion for Literacy is anyone who has made a contribution to literacy in Castlegar and area including individuals, groups, or organizations," said Alana Murdoch, community literacy coordinator for Community Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL).
This year's champions are: Linda Bloom, Dwight Soleski, Gloria Boyle, Ellen Bryden, Jennifer Cliff-Marks, Jane Green, Bill Ford, Phyllis Gairns, Adriana Huerta, Olga Jacinto, Mark Jennings, Lynnene Lewis, Vicki Matthews, Debbie McBee, Ray McDicken, Alana Murdoch, Michelle Pierce,
Joanne Richards, Margaret Sutherland, Vera Terpin and June Van Arendonk.
Community Basin Alliance for Literacy also presented a Partner in Living award to Kootenay Family Place.
