The much-anticipated Christmas Classic hockey game is set to make a triumphant return on Dec. 23 at 6:30 p.m., with Team Price taking on Team Kucher.

The hockey game and dance, considered one of Castlegar’s hallmark Christmas events for the past 11 years, promises to bring joy, friendly competition, and community spirit to all in attendance.

Team captain, Garrett Kucher, is excited to be the challenger this year, “Excited and honored to be a captain this year and looking to get a big dub. Team Price has faced some weak competition the last couple years with Team Plonka and Team Gienger. I’m excited to show Price what a true champion captain looks like.”

Team Price’s captain, on the other hand, is confident his squad will get the job done.

“I feel good about my team and look, this isn’t my first rodeo, been doing this for 11 years and I’m 8-3 in the event. I wish team Kuch the best of luck because, quite frankly, he’ll need it!”

The festivities of the Christmas Classic will commence at 3 p.m. on Dec. 23 at the Castlegar Community Complex, beginning with the thrilling Maximum Ice hockey game. Following this, the 4 p.m. Old Timer’s game and beer garden opening, will precede the much-anticipated Classic Game, scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.

Attendees can enjoy the hockey games free of charge and for those eager to dance the night away, the festivities continue with a dance starting at 9:30 p.m. and concluding at 1:00 a.m., requiring a $10 entry fee for charity.

Dance tickets can be purchased at Moonrise Boutique, Tailout Brewing or Cartwright’s Pub or at The Hive Studios in Trail.

This year there are a couple new additions: Chef’s Choice will be open to provide a festive array of food options and a new Winter Wonderland Lounge has been added to the event. If you are not into the club dance scene and want to visit in a festive environment, head over to the lounge to eat your delicious food, listen to festive acoustic music and drink classic holiday cocktails.

All of this is for charity. The Classic Foundation, a non-profit founded by Price and his wife Sara, aims to raise funds for immediate community needs, sports initiatives, small infrastructure projects, and local community groups. Spectators and participants are welcome to support the foundation’s efforts through engaging in all fundraising events, supporting beer garden sales, participating in the 50/50 and attending the Classic Dance or Winter Wonderland Lounge.

As Castlegar prepares for a night of celebration and friendly competition, the Christmas Classic stands as a testament to community unity and the spirit of giving. With a decade of tradition behind it, this year’s event promises to be a memorable occasion for all, fostering camaraderie and making a positive impact on the local community.
