City of Castlegar looking for volunteers for Abilities Awareness Advisory Committee

The committee provides input to the city on accessibility issues

The City of Castlegar is looking for volunteers to join the Abilities Awareness Advisory Committee.

The purpose of the committee is to advise and assist the city in making Castlegar a community that is physically accessible for all of its citizens.

The committee is made up of the mayor, the chair or deputy chair of council’s Community Wellness and Social Services Committee, a transportation and civic works manager and between four and eight community members.

The committee provides input on accessibility issues related to future planning, projects, municipal services, policies, and facilities. They also review existing municipal services, programs and facilities to offer advice on removing physical barriers that may be keeping some citizens from fully accessing services.

Ideal candidates for the committee include persons with disabilities, seniors, and service providers familiar with accessibility issues.

Council will consider applications and appoint by resolution up to eight members for a maximum four-year term to coincide with the current term of council.

The committee meets on an as-required basis dependent upon city initiatives and projects requiring the committee’s review and advice.

For more information call City Hall at 250-365-7227 or email castlegar.ca.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 17.
