Artist’s Bio and Statement

Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, I moved to Canada in 1983 after I met my husband. I lived in Toronto, then Belleville ON, and for the past twenty-one years in Castlegar, BC.

When I was young, I spent my free time drawing and creating cartoons. As a child, I dreamed of becoming an accomplished artist. As time passed, my dream faded away. Although, I continued to love art, and I loved to create art, but over time I lost the confidence in my artistic skills that I once had as a young girl.

In spite of my loss of confidence, I remained fascinated by art and the creative skills of others. Whenever I travel, I visit art galleries. I admire the many talented artists who have persevered with their creative impulses and succeeded in exhibiting their work.

I joined Mirija Vahala’s drop in art classes in January 2015. I began with a drawing program followed by painting with acrylics.

Art provided me with so much positive energy and enjoyment. Art was giving me strength.

This year, I have been focusing on composition. Also, I am very conscious of tonal values and clean colours. I am still learning to be a better artist. I continue to work hard and enjoy creating art.
